We feel it’s only fair to give you some fuel for thought on the subject, so you can make up your own mind, objectively.

The pleasures of cooking with Calor gas

Calor LPG is all about versatility.One fuel for everything – cooking, heating and fire. The outlook is more attractive with Calor

After we’ve done a site survey, we can advise you as to which storage option is the best for your property: an above or underground tank, or cylinders. With an underground installation you’ll barely know the tank is there.

Peace of mind

An LPG gas storage tank from Calor is looked after by us – we do the repairs, maintenance and give you a replacement when you need it, plus we cover the insurance, so you can leave it to us. If you’re considering oil, however, you might want to check that your home insurance policy covers you for spillages or pollution on your own and adjacent property – because in some instances it may not.

You don’t have to go into the red installing Calor LPG

If you take a look at the bar chart below, giving typical set-up costs in Year One compared to oil, you’ll see you can make some big savings with Calor. A Calor tank can cost as little as £150¹ and from 16.4p per day to run. An installer will prepare the tank base for as little as £175. A new LPG boiler can be nearly half the price of the equivalent oil boiler.

Due to the higher installation costs of an oil tank, boiler and servicing, it will take around 7 years before an oil customer will enjoy any running cost benefits compared to a new Calor customer. Pay back will be even longer for an existing Calor customer who has already installed the tank. However, the running costs for oil are generally cheaper than those for LPG, although oil is currently more expensive per litre in some areas. Prices are very volatile and depend on market conditions.

When calculating the running costs for oil, remember to take into account the cost of electricity, solid fuel or LPG purchased in cylinders for a cooker or a fire. LPG households that choose different fuels for cooking and heating would also need to consider these additional costs. Appliances that run on clean-burning LPG require less frequent servicing and fewer replacement parts than their oil equivalents.
