Around 1.7 million homes in Britain are not connected to a mains gas supply, leaving homeowners to find alternative solutions. Calor LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is the most eco-friendly of all of the fossil fuels available to rural communities, producing 13.2% less greenhouse gas emissions than an equivalent oil fired heating system.*
Making the switch
LPG can be used in the home just like mains gas and offers the same benefits for cooking and heating. If you're thinking of switching from oil, your existing tank may not comply with health and safety guidelines so Calor will send out a local area specialist to undertake a free site survey.
Storage
There are three gas storage options available - above and below ground bulk tanks and free standing cylinders. All are owned, maintained and insured by Calor, eliminating any worries about forking out for essential repairs or replacements. An above ground tank is suitable in most cases, which can be coloured green to easier blend into the surroundings. A below ground tank is a more unobtrusive option, with the tank entirely concealed from view by a green cover.
Alternatively, if you don't have the space for a tank, Calor's 4 x 47kg gas cylinders are a more compact solution. Each time one pair of cylinders empty, the supply switches to the second pair. Calor Gas cylinders can supply central heating systems of upto 30kW, including appliances such as cookers or fires. Never run out of fuel
Calor offers automatic fuel top-ups for tanks through The Think Tank®, its telemetry technology service. This regularly monitors your gas level and automatically alerts the local Calor depot when gas is running low so that a delivery can be arranged. Customers who don't have The Think Tank ® can opt for scheduled deliveries instead. Wherever possible, Calor will forecast deliveries based on your predicted consumption.
