Calor introduces LPG CPD seminar for RIBA members

Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of LPG, has become a network provider of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The comprehensive seminar enables RIBA members to increase their knowledge and understanding of LPG and earn CPD points. The seminar can be accessed via Calor’s website (www.calor.co.uk) or alternatively, a Calor representative can present the seminar at a professional’s office.

As well as being obligatory, CPD is a valuable business tool for architects and construction professionals. If planned well and implemented alongside appraisals, CPD can help to enhance productivity, earning power, morale, competence, job satisfaction, career prospects, client relations, recruitment and safety. Online learning is a simple and convenient way for RIBA members to update their skills and knowledge – at their own pace and in their own time.

Calor’s LPG online CPD seminar can be accessed via the developers, architects and heating specifiers section of Calor’s website, which also contains other relevant and useful information, including a technical factfile, domestic and commercial case studies, industry news and information on Calor promotions.

Calor’s 41 page seminar is designed to provide RIBA members with comprehensive and essential knowledge and information about LPG. The seminar is especially useful for professionals involved with rural housing developments, which in most instances will require a non-mains-gas fuel.

As well as explaining key facts about Calor and the LPG market, the seminar covers where and why LPG is used and illustrates the benefits of the non-mains-gas fuel over other alternative fuels, such as oil – in relation to environmental pollution in particular. The seminar also provides technical details and essential advice relating to the facts about LPG, regulations, types of gas storage options available and siting details.

Information on tank storage options – including central storage and individual underground tank installations – tank access, cylinders and telemetry is included. There are also details of the wide range of LPG appliances available, including boilers, and some examples of domestic and commercial installations.

Andrea Price, market manager at Calor, said: “Calor is committed to communicating LPG’s benefits and stimulating growth and demand in the non-mains-gas market. A key part of this process is education. Our new RIBA CPD seminar, designed specifically for architects, specifiers and developers, provides RIBA members with essential information on LPG and other non-mains-gas fuels, enabling them to make fully informed decisions when choosing fuel for rural developments.

“Rural developers are becoming more clued up about LPG. They are finding that installing the fuel makes properties easier to sell because home buyers prefer gas – especially if they are moving from an urban area where they have been used to the benefits of mains gas.
“LPG is the closest alternative to mains gas; it is the only non-mains-gas fuel which provides a real and controllable flame for cookers and fires. Even the sight of the LPG storage tank can be eliminated by opting for an unobtrusive underground tank. All that is visible with this type of installation is a compact round green cover, which gives access to the valve assembly.

“Another important benefit Calor offers is a constant supply of fuel. The Think Tank® storage system, available on above or below ground tank options, ensures that homeowners are automatically topped-up with Calor LPG when required, without any action on their part. With The Think Tank® installed there really is no difference between LPG and mains gas.

“With Calor LPG, architects, developers and specifiers can rest assured that the tank installation and insurance is our responsibility, and we complete a full site survey beforehand. We will assist with the application of any planning permission that may be required, and provide detailed information and guidance on the excavation process. We are also used to working with builders with demanding schedules and are rated highly for our on-time delivery. After installation, the tank remains the property and responsibility of Calor and is checked and maintained by our qualified engineers every time gas is delivered.”
