Q: As soon as the weather begins to get colder, I always rely on my trusty portable gas heater to boost the temperature in the larger rooms in my house. The problem is, I purchased the heater quite a few years ago and I think it could do with servicing and checking before I use it. Is this something I need to do and who can I go to?
A: When the weather unexpectedly changes, it is tempting to just get the gas heater out and start it up without checking it. However, it is vital that you get it cleaned and serviced before you use it if it has been left unused for a long period of time.
Calor, the experts in heating in the home, offer a free heater health check to give customers the reassurance that their portable heater is working efficiently and to highlight any visible defects. These checks are carried out by Calor Gas Direct outlets, which are located nationwide.
All you need to do is take in the appliance where it will have a nine point health check which is carried out by a Calor trained engineer or representative. The check includes the inspection of: General wear and tear, current approved design, controls, fireguards, pilot light, back plate, kick plate, ceramic panels and stability of castors.
This is only a visual check and, as with all gas appliances, portable heaters should be serviced regularly by a fully qualified and competent CORGI registered installer. To arrange your FREE Portable Heater Health Check, call free on 0800 662 663 or visit www.lpg-portable-heaters.co.uk.
